Introducing Selling Partner API

Selling Partner-API (SP-API) is a modernized suite of REST APIs utilizing standards that today's developers expect, while making it as simple as possible to migrate from our legacy Marketplace Web Service (MWS) APIs. This suite will include all the functionality available in MWS plus over a dozen net new APIs, including APIs for vendors. Beginning in September we will make SP-API generally available to all new and existing developers.
Frequently asked questions
What is Selling Partner API (SP-API)?
SP-API is the next generation suite of API-based automation functionality for Amazon's selling partners and is an evolution of Amazon Marketplace Web Service (MWS) APIs, which have been offering sellers programmatic access to critical Amazon features for more than 10 years. At launch, SP-API will be available in production in all Amazon stores where MWS is supported today.
What are the key differences between MWS and SP-API?
SP-API offers all Selling Partners and third-party developers a number of improvements over MWS, such as modernized, JSON-based REST API design standards, OAuth2.0 selling partner authorization using Login with Amazon, and a test endpoint - the most requested feature in MWS. In addition to all legacy functionality previously provided in MWS and new API capabilities for sellers, SP-API supports the first ever APIs for Amazon Vendors – all through the same API control plane and authorization mechanisms. Going forward all net new API functionality will be built in SP-API, with updates to MWS only to support business critical changes.

Will anything happen to my existing MWS credentials and integration?
No, if you have existing MWS API credentials there is no change to your existing integration with this launch and no required action at this time. All current MWS developers will be able to integrate with SP-API at launch.
I use a third party application that is integrated with MWS, does this impact me?
No, there is no change or action needed from sellers who have authorized a third party application to use MWS on their behalf at this time.
Is MWS going away? If so, when?
Yes, the legacy MWS APIs will be deprecated in the future. We do not yet have an established date, but will let you know and provide both time and tools to support migration of existing MWS integrations.
Is it mandatory to migrate from MWS to SP-API? If so, when?
No, it is not mandatory to migrate to SP-API at this time, but we encourage you to review the SP-API materials and your existing integration to begin planning your migration to the new functionality.
When will I be able to integrate with SP-API? What can I do now?
We anticipate SP-API will be publicly available worldwide in mid-September. You can start by reviewing our documentation and APIs models on GitHub.
How can I get more information and stay up to date on SP-API?
